CAN DO CLUBS
Can Do Clubs (grades 1 – 5) meet every Tuesday for 9 weeks each semester from 3:00 – 3:45.
Our goal is to inspire and to equip students with the desire and ability to minister to others. Students will visit two different nursing homes during the year and preform/deliver gifts to the residents made by the clubs. Some clubs will perform at special events during the year.
Current Can Do Clubs:
Drama Ministry: Produce skits to perform in chapel, special programs, & nursing homes
JR Signs of Glory: Sign and perform Christian music
Bells/Chimes: Learn to play the bells and chimes for worship in various activities
Sign Language: Learn sign language with songs to demonstrate in chapel and nursing homes
Children’s Choir: Ministering to others by singing
Book Club: Hands-on enrichment activities
Art: Create crafts/gifts to take to nursing homes
DRAMA CLUB
Portsmouth Christian’s drama club is called “Jocking Jesus.” The term “jocking” is commonly used by youth today to describe when someone is copying another person’s style or manner. Imitation is the highest form of flattery, and it is the goal of our drama team to not only portray roles, but to imitate Christ! As Paul says in Ephesians 5,“Be ye imitators of Christ as dear children.” In addition, Paul encouraged the early believers to follow him as he follows Christ.
The drama club of Portsmouth Christian performs a variety of skits during school chapels focused on presenting the gospel in a way that the student body thoroughly enjoys. Future goals include presenting an annual play and using our gifts within the Hampton Roads community, both as an encouragement to churches as well as an evangelical tool to reach the lost.
Membership in the drama club is available to all students 7th-12th grade. Auditions take place at the beginning of each year, and students are chosen on an application and performance basis. Commitment to weekly practices is required, and everyone participates. PCS is blessed with much God-given talent, and it is thrilling to see the students use their gifts to carry out our school vision by making a difference!
